Serving 137 years—Since 1800’s
Our Vision: To be a guiding light of faith, hope, and love
Around the 1800’s, Jerusalem A.M.E. Church originated under a tent as recalled by the Late Odella Mention. The old church was a tent, which separated Georgetown and Williamsburg County. Later, it was moved to Georgetown County by the Late Phyllis Green. In 1885, the church was erected, which was the structure of an old wooden church. In 1926, Rev. E. Smalls was the Pastor and the church was remodeled, under the leadership of The Right Reverend S.R. Huggins, Presiding Bishop and The Reverend J.C. James, Presiding Elder.
By 1959-1962, Rev. E. Smalls was the Pastor. The Late Mrs. Nellie Vandross Beckman Blow (mother of the Late Rosa Beckman Lewis) and the Late Odessa Weaver Davis were the only two ladies who would mortgage their land to build the new edifice. Later, Rev. Nathan Morris became the Pastor in 1973-1982 and the fellowship hall was built, Sunday School Classrooms were added, and both sides of the choir stand built.
Then, Rev. James Frost came to Jerusalem in 1982-2015 and retired after thirty years of preaching at Jerusalem. He stayed as one of the longest Pastor to hold a position during that period; given the appointment to come to Jerusalem A.M.E. Church, under the leadership of The Right Reverend John Hurst Adams, Presiding Bishop and The Reverend Richard Allen Leonard, Presiding Elder.
In 2015-2022, Rev. Jerry Smalls, Sr. came to Jerusalem A.M.E. Church and under his leadership TV screens, Security Cameras, and Intercom System were installed. Later a metal roof was put on top of the church to replace the old shingles.
We were BLESSED with many male Pastors and finally on the Second Sunday of November 2022, The Reverend Alice Parson-Wright, made history at Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church as being the First Female Pastor at Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the leadership of The Right Rev. Samuel Green, Sr., Presiding Bishop and Rev. Remus Harper, Presiding Elder, Kingstree District, Palmetto Conference/7thEpiscopal District.
